An outstanding holiday home set in the heart of a pretty village with a shop, pub, and butchers close by. The beach at Par Sands is dog-friendly all year round, and is only a 15 -20 min walk from the house. We welcome one or two pet dogs to stay here for your holiday.

Accommodation comprises 3 large bedrooms upstairs and an additional flexible bedroom downstairs with level access and ensuite/utility facilities. Sleeping 6 upstairs and possibility to sleep 4 more downstairs if necessary. There is a barn also, which houses a full size table tennis table for our guests to use.

A fantastic reinstated Victorian veranda at the front of The Gables is the perfect place to watch the world go by. Savour your moments and unwind for breakfast and reading the paper, or, The House on the Strand – whilst knowing Daphne du Maurier enjoyed this actual spot too.

There are 2 ensuite bathrooms, a family bathroom and a separate loo also. Yes that’s four toilets in total!

The pretty rear garden is secluded and features many mature shrubs and flowers. A little pathway at the back leads to a ‘secret’ spot for quiet reflection and relaxation.

A magnificent dining room complete with wood burner and leather winged-back chair. The antique French doors open out onto the veranda. We’ve themed this room loosely around the ‘ du Maurier connection. You’ll also find a large OS map of the local area on the wall – a handy reference while discussing your plans…

A large sitting room with three sofas and large flat screen TV. Wifi throughout the house and land line phone for local calls free. Lots of boards games and jig-saw puzzles too.

King-size bedroom

Sleeping 6 comfortably upstairs, the sitting room offers an extra sleeping facility if really needed. It has double sofa bed with 5″ mattress. You’d only really need to use this if you needed beds for 10.

The Gribbin Lounge has an ensuite shower room/utility room with level access from outside. This has a day bed which can also work as 2 singles, or a super-king double. Ideal for a convalescent with carer, or elderly person not wanting to go upstairs.

There is a king-size bedroom with ensuite, a double bed, a twin bedded room and, another possible two single beds downstairs.

Polkerris is a beautiful beach, just minutes away by car, or a lovely walk from the house via the coastal path.

This shows the single beds option for the Gribbin lounge downstairs

Beautiful flowers and shrubs surround The Gables at all times of the year.

Polridmouth beach on the Menabilly estate, a couple of miles from The Gables, where you will see the house where Daphne du Maurier wrote many of her novels in the distance here. The Gibbin red and white pillar on the headland in the distance.

… Some Guest’s comments:

The Gables is excellent! This is a truly wonderful place to rest and recuperate. The house is very spacious and has many quirky and interesting features. The garden is delightful – quiet and private at the back, and you’re ‘The King of the Castle’ at the front. We’ll have to come back again, a week simply isn’t long enough!

We found The Gables to be ideal for a group of ramblers. The flexible accommodation allows for couples or singles. The house is equipped to a very high standard and Tywardreath village has the best of both worlds, being away from the crowds but so well placed for buses and trains. A walkers paradise with well signed routes on the doorstep!

We really enjoyed the veranda for breakfast, drinks and dinner. It felt very sophisticated! The whole house feels luxurious and is so well equipped. All the games were great too. Regular Connect 4 contests and The Viking game. No need for the telly.  The Waistell family
